Pheidippides was a professional runner for the army.
He is famous for giving us the tradition of "Marathon."
Pheidippides is said to have run 150 miles from Athens
to Sparta, asking for help in the battle against the
He then ran the 150 miles back to Athens.
Then, he ran 26 miles to the plains of Marathon and
participated in the battle.
After the battle, he ran from Marathon back to Athens
(26 miles) to announce victory, and to tell them the
Persians were headed around the cape to Athens.
Upon his arrival at the general assembly, he said,
