An American was visiting in a foreign country.
He was representing a large textile company at a luncheon.
During his presentation, he told a rather long joke.
The translator made a statement in the foreign language that was
quite short, and everyone laughed very heartily.
Later the representative said to the translator, "That was wonderful
the way the people appreciated my joke. I don't understand how
you could shorten it so easily in your language."
The interpreter said, "Oh...that. I just told them “man with big
checkbook tell funny story, do what you think is appropriate.””
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and
Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut,
and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold
my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side:
and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou
hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have
LIGHT from the WORD.
Thomas had doubted.
He did not come to the upper room the first night Jesus appeared.
The second night Jesus appeared, Thomas was there.
Knowing he was skeptical, Jesus approached him.
He said, “Thomas take your finger and feel the scars in my
hand. Take your hand and thrust it in the hole in my side.
And be not faithless, but believing.”
Thomas did what was appropriate!
He surrendered to Jesus as LORD!
Jesus cannot fully reveal His wonderful salvation to us until
conviction drives us to repentance!
We cannot understand Him being SAVIOR until we are ready
to surrender to Him as LORD!
I've been preaching this for over 37 years now:
WITHOUT SURRENDER TO JESUS AS LORD
THERE CAN BE NO SALVATION!
The way of living WITH Christ is in surrender TO Christ as Lord.
Jesus is the ONLY One Who has the “checkbook” to eternal life!
Do what is appropriate!
