THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Jan and Lena had once been neighbors.
Jan's husband had died, and they had to sell their house and move.
Lena hadn't seen Jan in over twenty years when they met by chance at the mall.
They went outside to a resting area to "catch up" on each other's lives.

Lena asked about Jan's children. Jan said, "Well, Suzy, the youngest is studying to be a psychiatrist, and will graduate next year. The middle one, Sandra, is a dentist."

Lena asked, "What about the oldest? The boy -- Bill."

Jan said, "Oh! Bill's a mechanic. If it weren't for him, we'd never have been able to get the girls through school!"

THOUGHT____________________________________

God didn't call us to be successful.
He called us to be faithful!

Physical life deals us some misery at times.
While we're mowing the yard on a very hot day, the mower quits.
We're late for work and the car won't start.
After shopping in a tremendous Christmas crowd, we return to the car and find a flat.

Spiritual life deals us some misery at times too.
You've been standing in the check-out line for 20 minutes, and the clerk's computer dies.
Do you mutter under your breath?
Or do you smile and say, "Jesus gives me patience."

Sometimes people are just downright mean.
Sometimes people are just plain cold.
But Jesus didn't say, "Love thy neighbor depending on his/her attitude."

The truth is, when God calls us to be saved, He also equips us to endure!
Our salvation doesn't depend upon our endurance. No.
It's the other way around.
Our endurance in relationships with God and other people depend upon our salvation.

If we are truly saved, we will endure!
God equips us with His Holy Spirit to comfort and encourage us.
He gives us His Holy Bible to teach us.
He gives us His church to lean on and minister.
When we are saved, we are equipped to endure!

Jesus was literally "run out" of His hometown church.
But He made it His "custom" to attend church.
He was faced with hypocritical Pharisees and Sadducees who mocked Him and derided Him.
But He continued to preach the truth and help others.
Jesus had to deal with disciples who were quarrelling with one another about who would be the most important.
One of His own disciples betrayed Him.

But "..when He was reviled, reviled not again.." (1Peter 2:23)
He took OUR sins in His body so that we might LIVE for righteousness sake (1Peter 2:24).

Do not quit!
Do not give up on people.
Do not stop studying your Bible.
Be faithful in prayer.
Be faithful in servantship through the church.

Endure!

Let those who come behind us find us faithful!

Love ya!
