THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance.
By perserverance the snail reached the ark.
Charles H. Spurgeon
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,
it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should
earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Jude had determined he was going to write about "the common salvation."
Not that it is "common" that God would die for sinners.
But it is "common" because salvation is offered to EVERYONE!
Though he desired to write on the subject of salvation,
God's Holy Spirit inspired him to write concerning the saints needing to
"earnestly contend for the faith..."
The words "earnestly contend for" come from the Greek epagonizomai
That word might be commonly translated "struggle for."
Our faith, or our perseverance in faith becomes the target for all our enemies.
The world will try to persuade you to be lenient and not abide by Biblical ethics.
Satan will try and persuade you that you are accomplishing nothing.
Satan will try and persuade you that you are deserving of rest, and not continued striving.
Your own flesh will try and persuade you that you need a vacation from the work.
Life, for a Christian is indeed a struggle.
It could be likened to running a long race like a marathon.
We exhibit no desire to win the race if we aren't RUNNING!
1 Cor 9:24
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?
So run, that ye may obtain.
Perseverance is the evidence of faith.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
