THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Dad told his son not to eat too much,
"You'll make a pig of yourself. Do you know what a pig is?"
The son answered, "Yes, Dad. A pig is a hog's little boy."
For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better
hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Spiritually speaking, men tending to men can only produce "pigs."
We are sinners all, and none of us are capable of saving ourselves.
We certainly can save no one else.
The law and sacrifices could not make a man perfect before God.
Even when God spoke to Moses He said, "Draw not nigh hither;
put off thy shoes from off thy feet" (Exodus 3:5)
And when God spoke from Mt. Sinai to bring the law He told Moses,
"And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying,
Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount,..."
When priests accepted the sacrifices of men in the Old Testament,
the people did not come into the court - only to the gate.
Only the priests could enter the sacred holy place.
Distance between God and man was prominent in the relationship.
Reliance upon priests was also a prominent factor.
But when Jesus came, God's "come not nigh" changed to
"Come unto me!"
Now there is a new High Priest.
He is God incarnate Who welcomes men into His presence!
Now nearness is the prominent factor in the relationship between
God and man.
And we need only rely upon ONE High Priest, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
"But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are
made nigh by the blood of Christ." (Eph 2:13)
Two special privileges of experiencing His nearness.
One is being able to speak freely.
Jesus is a "Friend Who sticks closer than a brother."
To Him we can speak privately and openly about ALL of our concerns.
We need never fear His upbraiding for our stupidity.
We can open the contents of our heart to Him freely.
Two is being understood.
His Holy Spirit is always with the saved sinner, never leaving our sides.
He knows our joys, our sorrows, our concerns.
His sincerity is tempered with sympathy, and He listens for our inward
thoughts rather than our outward expressions.
Now that Jesus has come, lived, died, been resurrected and ascended,
we have a much "better HOPE!"
He is our High Priest by Whom we can "draw nigh" unto God!
Draw nigh then today through prayer.
Experience His nearness!
