THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Plant your children in the faith of Christ.
They may wane, they may wander, they may wiggle,
But - they'll never wither!
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Elsewhere (Proverbs 22:15), we are told that "Foolishness is bound in the heart of the child;
but the rod of correction will drive it far from him."
Children and youth have thoughts and desires toward those things which hold "thorns and snares."
The reason they think that way is because they haven't learned that there are boundaries which,
when crossed, present problems.
They need "TRAINING!"
The words "train up" are translated from the Hebrew chanak (khaw-nak'), which means to narrow the way,
or to dedicate through discipline.
Training means teaching effectively.
The parent that "trains" the child, will include corporal punishment at times when necessary.
Corporal punishment enforces correct teaching when it is done in love.
Foolish thoughts are often driven from the mind when the "board of education" is applied to the "seat of learning."
Training a child in Christ instills principles and values which become standards of living in adulthood.
When older, a child remembers the boundaries, and abides by them knowing that to overstep those
boundaries is foolish.
