A little boy had just got a spanking from his dad.
Sniffling, he looked up at Dad, and asked,
"Dad, do you think I'm a CANOE?"
Dad asked, "Why would you think that son?"
The little boy answered, "Well you always say
a man oughta paddle his own canoe!"
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long
upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath:
but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
LIGHT from the WORD.
Today, all over our nation, and the Christian world,
we honor fathers.
Because throughout Biblical history, the father is the
head of the family.
It is he who is responsible for the welfare of His family.
It is he who is responsible for the honor and integrity
of the family.
It is he upon whom shame is reflected when his
children do wrong.
And, it is the father who will answer to God for his family!
Notice that Ex. 20:12 above is the "first commandment
with PROMISE." (See Eph. 6:2)
Disobedience to parents can bring TROUBLE!
Not just disciplinary action -- but also trouble in the world.
It is the father's responsibility to LOVINGLY discipline
his children. ((Along with the mother.))
But, it is also his responsibility to LOVE his children!
And, to "bring them up in the nurture and
admonition of the LORD!" (See Eph. 6:4 above)
Fathers, LOVE your children and raise them according
to the will of God.
Children HONOR your father with love and appreciation.
