THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

A brash young British pilot came winging into the Congo airport and ordered his plane to be filled with petrol.
That's a term for gasoline in Britain, but in Congo it means kerosene.

"Don't you mean essence?" asked the African attendant.

"NO!," answered the positive Brit. "When I say petrol, I mean petrol!"

The attendant did as he was told. It took two days to get the plane's engine straightened out!

Luke 11:20-26
20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

Reading Matthew 12 and Luke 11, one can see that the topic of discussion is the power of Christ to usher in the kingdom of God, and to change lives completely.

Here, Jesus refers His power to cast out demons by "the finger of God" (verse 20).
Jesus states that as long as the devil is in charge, he has no problem.
But when Christ casts him out, then his influence upon a soul is GONE!

Make no mistake about it... if Christ is not in charge of a person's life, the devil is!

THEREFORE, Jesus says, "He that is not WITH me is AGAINST me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth." (verse 23 --- see also Matthew 12:30)

You see, when Jesus comes into a person's life, He "...destroy(s) the works of the devil" (1John 3:8).
The person has given his WILL over to Christ, and Christ becomes LORD of the person.
And the devil has no more power to MAKE the saved person sin.

Saved people, when we sin, we have no one to blame but OURSELVES!
And WE must confess the sin to our Lord, and ask His forgiveness.

When the devil voluntarily leaves a person alone, then it seems that the "house" is "swept clean."
But the power of evil must be displaced with the power of good.
Jesus told the disciples, "He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit:" (John 13:10).
But Jesus ALSO said, "If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me." (John 13:8)

A person's "house" can be swept and appear clean; but it must be washed by the power of Christ to remain clean!

And THAT'S why Jesus made the affirmation that if a person is truly given to Him, that person will be WORKING for the kingdom of God! (see verse 23 again)

Being "born again" means the power of God comes into a person's life by the essence of His Holy Spirit.
And God's Holy Spirit will ALWAYS influence His people to be working for the kingdom of God and Christ.

Let His Holy Spirit fill your heart with His essence every day this year!

Love ya!
