THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
the day when God was CRUCIFIED
for man’s GOOD!
And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering..
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way;
and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth:
he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb,
so he openeth not his mouth.
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom;
and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; ....
(All quotes are from the KJV)
Abraham told Isaac God would provide “Himself a Lamb.” (Gen. 22:8)
On the day Abraham went up to the mountain with Isaac, God provided a “ram.” (Gen. 22:13)
God’s “Lamb” would come later.
Centuries later, John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him.
He testified, “Behold the Lamb of God!” (John 1:29)
This “Lamb” was a PERSON: God incarnate!
This “Lamb,” and ONLY this “Lamb” can take away “the sin of the world!”
At 3pm on Passover Friday, the High Priest was to offer a “lamb” for the people.
It was on that day, at that hour, that Jesus “yielded up the ghost...” (Matt. 27:50).
On that day God paid God the price of man’s salvation – His OWN blood!
That blood is the ONLY righteous and acceptable price for the sins of mankind.
On that day God provided man ATONEMENT!
For your life is not bought with gold or silver,
"But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"
(1 Peter 1:19).
And the Bible explains: “the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom!”
That great veil which separated the Holy Place from the Holy Of Holies in the temple was RIPPED!
No longer would little lambs be needed for sacrifice!
The way is now open to God’s Holy Presence through JESUS!
It certainly was not “good” that man crucified his God!
But it was “good” that God was willing to pay that price for our salvation!
And THAT is why it’s called GOOD FRIDAY!
