THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
At seminary, the professor preached a sermon on: The Seven Decades of Man:
Spills, Drills, Thrills, Bills, Ills, Pills, and Wills.
His point was we shouldn't put off the "Wills" until the last decade!
1 Sam 7:12
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying,
Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
Think about it: "Hitherto hath the LORD helped us!"
Can we do ANYTHING that really matters without God's help?
Have you ever noticed how the "weekend" includes the last day of the week AND the first day of the week?
How many people shout a loud "HOORAY!" at 5PM on Friday, but won't even say a quiet "Amen" on Sunday?
How serious was God about the "Sabbath Day" (Seventh day)?
"Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death." (Ex 31:15)
That's pretty SERIOUS I'd say!
God has helped us ALL week.
He will help us on the weekend too.
If we but make the slightest commitment, God will help us to worship Him on the first day of the week.
If God has helped us all week, certainly we can give Him the first day of the week (See Acts 20:7, 1Corinthians 16:2).
Hitherto (all week, and all year) God has helped us.
Hitherto (on each first day of the week) let us praise Him!
