THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
A hawk, a lion and a skunk were discussing who had the most power in the woods.
The hawk insisted that he had the most power.
He said, "I can fly and swoop down swiftly on my prey."
The lion said, "No, I have the most power. I'm not only fast, but I have powerful claws and teeth."
The skunk said, "You are both wrong. I have the most power, because, with a flick of my tail I can run you both off!"
Just then a grizzly bear came running through the woods and ate them all -- hawk, lion and stinker!
2 Sam 22:33-36
33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
34 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.
Elijah outran Ahab's chariot.
Samson pulled down a whole house.
David was a very skilled warrior.
But all their speed, strength and prowess came from GOD!
All we have and are comes from our Creator.
But the greatest gift God gives us is the "shield" of "salvation."
Only God can save us from the wiles of the "Temptor."
Only God can save us from the sinfulness of the world.
Only God can save us from our own self-destruction.
God is omnipotent, having all power.
Yet, it is not speed, power or skillfulness that makes God GREAT.
It is His "gentleness," by having mercy upon our souls and offering us salvation from the bondage of sin.
Truly GREAT men are GENTLEmen.
In their daily lives, they reflect the glory of their Creator and Savior.
"Oh, Lord, my God and Savior. In this day, I pray Thee, allow me to reflect Thy power with gentleness.
And, under Thy spiritual hand of guidance, may I offer the salvation of Christ to some troubled soul today."
