THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Have you ever noticed how the "weekend" includes the last day of the week AND the
first day of the week?
How many people shout a loud "HALLELUJAH!" at 5PM on Friday, but won't even say a quiet "Amen" on Sunday?
1 Sam 7:12
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of
it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
Think about it: "Hitherto hath the LORD helped us!"
Can we do ANYTHING that really matters without God's help?
Were it not for His GRACE, where would we be?
How serious was God about the "Sabbath Day" (Seventh day)?
"Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the
LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death."
That's pretty SERIOUS I'd say!
God was also very serious about Pentecost.
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the
harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
Pentecost means 50.
15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering;
seven sabbaths shall be complete:
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
Pentecost actually was a prophecy of Christ rising from the dead, being the "first fruits" of God's promise for eternal life.
1 Cor 15:20
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
The reason for that is Jesus conquered sin and death on the cross; then,
He AROSE on the FIRST day of the week.
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were
shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood
in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Then, 50 days later, the first church was organized when God's Holy Spirit fell upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost.
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Since that time, the FIRST day of the week has been called "the Lord's Day."
(Acts 20:7, 1Cor. 16:2, Rev. 1:10)
If God has helped us all week, certainly we can give Him the first day of the week!
If we but make the slightest commitment, God will help us to worship Him on the first
day of the week.
“Hitherto God has helped us!”
Hitherto (on each first day of the week) let us praise Him!
