Light travels at 186,000 miles per second!
Sound travels at 750 miles per hour.

Man has not yet achieved "light speed," but he can travel at up to 3 times the speed of sound.

The proof that sound travels slow is that your children will not hear some of the things you say until they are forty!

John 4:34-35
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Two very important things this Scripture teaches us:
1) Our work is to do God's will,
2) Harvest time is here.

Jesus said His work was to "do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work."
Jesus' finished work was the redemption of man. However, while Jesus was on earth, He was constantly focused upon evangelism of the lost.

Today, Christians are the "body of Christ" on earth (see 1Corinthians 12:27 and Ephesians 4:12). Since we are His body on the earth, we are to do the will of God. And God's will is to evangelize the lost.

It is our privilege to join God in His work! It is also a responsibility of "the body of Christ."

Jesus said the field IS ripe. He didn't say the field would someday be ripe. Neither did He say the field used to be ripe. Obviously He was not talking about the "harvest" of the end times (Revelation 14:15); Jesus was talking about the harvest of the lost unto salvation. He was speaking of bringing lost souls to a saving knowledge of Christ.

God has COMPLETED His work of paying the penalty for man's sin. But He is not yet finished OFFERING salvation to the lost! That work is an ongoing concern of the church.

Let the sound of God's Word go past our ears and into our hearts today!

God has prepared someone near you for hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ today. God is being longsuffering and patient while we make His offer of salvation to the lost.

PRAY for laborers in the field.
BE a laborer in the field.
