THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Years ago, a toastmaster introduced Thomas. A. Edison at a dinner.
He spoke long about Edison's many inventions; particularly about the "talking machine."

When Edison was finally called to the stand, He said, "I thank the gentleman for his kind remarks. However, I must insist upon one correction. GOD invented the 'talking machine.' I only made the first one someone can SHUT OFF!"

SCRIPTURE_____________________________________________________

Matt 13:1-9
1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

THOUGHT_________________________________________________________

The crowd gathered was so large Jesus had to implement use of a small ship to develop an ampitheatre.
With the ship out on the water, the people on the shore could easily HEAR what He was saying.

Sometimes, we're guilty of talking when we should be listening.
Sometimes, we're guilty of doing something else, when we should be reading God's Word.

The "seed" sown represents the gospel of Jesus Christ:
salvation by grace, through faith in Him alone.

The receptiveness of the ground represents the nature of people's hearts.
Some hear gladly, some slowly, and some - not at all.

The fruit represents transformation in the heart of those who RECEIVED the gospel.

Except a seed be PLANTED, germination cannot take place and produce a plant.

Except wisdom be planted in the heart, transformation will not take place and produce "fruit."

Are you hearing God's Word?

Love ya,
Bruce
