THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Note appearing in a church bulletin:
"Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands."
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
In each of the above Scriptures, the message is simple:
Give up SELF for your marital partner.
Sadly, most people approach becoming a Christian as still being in charge of their own life.
However, we are to, first, give ALL of self to Jesus. (See Luke 9:23)
Again sadly, most people STILL approach becoming married as still in charge of their own life.
Yet, we are to give UP being a selfish individual and become a marital PARTNER.
(See Genesis 2:22-23)
I once watched Dr. John Traylor performing a wedding ceremony.
The way he approached the unity of marriage was quite unique.
I cannot remember the exact words, but they were similar to the following.
"If you'll both look UP to Jesus, and work towards BEING like Him,
then you'll be DRAWN TOGETHER!"
It's impossible for two people to work toward the same point and not be drawn closer together.
Look to Jesus.
Work to be more like Jesus.
Your marriage will be BETTER!
