David Whitthoft was seven years old when he started to wear
( wear everyday with regular washing by his mom) his Brett Favre jersey.
Brett Favre was his football hero.

Day after day he wore that jersey.
No one had to wonder what he was wearing for school!

Gal 3:25-27
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

When you were young, did you have heroes?

I did; one of my heroes was the singer Tennessee Ernie Ford.
He was a "country boy," but could even sing opera.
He was strong in faith toward Christ.
And, I admired his voice.
So, I imitated his singing.
And, by the age of 14, I could sing as low as him.

When we surrender to Christ as Lord, the first gift we receive is His Holy Spirit,
Who imparts "faith."
This gift of God, "faith," helps us to cling to Christ.

Christ becomes our greatest Hero!
We want to learn more about Him.
So, we begin to read, study and learn of His Person.

And, we begin to imitate Him, or "put on Christ."

We begin to honor and reverence Christ.
We learn to speak and act in terms that will give him honor and reverence.

We begin to exhibit love, as He did; without prejudice toward all people.
And, we try to find ways by which we can lead others to honor and reverence Christ.

Have you "put on Christ?"
Are you “imitating” your Hero?

(By the Way, on his 12th birthday on April 23rd, David Whitthoft finally gave up his Jersey
which he had received more than four years before on Christmas.
The jersey was, by then, only reaching to his belt line.)

Love ya!
