DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Mary Prescott married John Physick in Portland,
Maine, on July 4, 1770.

The next Sunday, their minister chose for his text,
Luke 10:42: "Mary has chosen that GOOD part."

SCRIPTURE______________________________

Matt 11:16-19
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto
children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced;
we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say,
He hath a devil.
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say,
Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of
publicans and sinners.
But wisdom is justified of her children.

LIGHT from the WORD.

Another lady married a man named John.
Her parents had not wanted her to marry him.
The next Sunday, their minister preached from Matthew 11:18
at the bride's request:
"For John came neither eating nor drinking,
and they say, He hath a devil."

That particular "John" was John ADAMS, by the way,
who became the 2nd President of the United States!

Then there was a man named "John the Baptist."
The people who heard him didn't respond to his
preaching very well.
Most of them still maintained that superior "air,"
and wanted to make it to heaven with good works.

Then, during John's ministry there was a man called
JESUS Who came upon the scene.
People didn't respond to His preaching very well either.
A few believed He was Messiah, but others just wanted
Him to end up like John the Baptist!

Jesus said those people were like children.
Someone said, "Let's play wedding."
And everyone said, "NO!"
Then someone said, "Let's play funeral."

The children didn't want to play unless it was THEIR idea!

But those who BELIEVED both John the Baptist and
Jesus were "children" who "justified"
God's OFFER of salvation!

God counts those who BELIEVE in Jesus as "JUSTIFIED!"

And those who believe Jesus JUSTIFY God's OFFER
of salvation to all mankind!

As those who believe, we don't work to EARN salvation.
We work for Jesus because He GAVE salvation!

Love ya!
