THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
The hospital administrator saw a patient fleeing from the operating
room and running down the hall, his loose hospital gown flapping in
the breeze behind him.
He stopped the patient and asked why he was running.
The man, out of breath and obviously afraid,
"Because of what that nurse said!"
The administrator asked, "What did she say?"
The man answered, "She said, 'Be calm, be brave. An appendectomy
is quite simple."
The administrator said, "Well, she was right. Why would that scare you?"
The man answered, "She was not talking to me, she was talking
to the doctor!"
14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me,
and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.
Light from the WORD.
Physical disease may be healed by man, but even then, it is God
Who gives the power of that healing.
Doctors and nurses are instrumental, but God is JEHOVAH-ROPHI,
"the God Who healeth thee." (Exodus 15:26)
We owe praise to God for all the innovative medical techniques and
medicines that have been discovered.
However, in our text above, Jeremiah is not praying for physical healing.
He is praying for inward spiritual healing.
Aside from Job, Jeremiah probably suffered more than anyone in
the Old Testament.
And his suffering was mostly inward.
He was despised by his countrymen for the messages he preached.
He was confined to prison, and given lashes.
He was told NOT to prophesy, and then asked for his advice.
He was placed in a well, sunk in the muddy mire up to his neck.
Finally, he was carried away captive by his own countrymen to a land
where he had told them NOT to go.
Jesus has the power to heal ALL our diseases.
"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Col 2:9)
He can heal the inward spiritual wounds and diseases just as the
We must all admit that at times, we suffer from despondency, depression,
oppression, repression, weak faith, broken hearts, plagues of anger
and other inward spiritual problems.
As pastor and author Chuck Swindoll has said,
"We all need a check up from the neck up to get rid of stinkin' thinkin'!"
Jeremiah realized the need to release those inward spiritual diseases to
God and to ask for His healing.
The compassion, mercy and grace of our God will attend to those needs
as much as any other.
And He will give us a natural response of joy and praise to His name for
the healing of them.
Today, yield your inward spiritual diseases to Jesus.
For if healing comes, it must certainly come from Him.
And when He heals, He brings the "peace that passeth all understanding"
to your heart and soul.
