THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Ed Whitlock(born March 6, 1931) is a Canadian long-distance runner.
He is also the first person over 70 years old to run a marathon (26 miles, 385 yds.) in less than three hours with a time of 2:59:10 in 2003.

For those of you who are runners, that means he runs each mile in less than 6.7 minutes!!
That’s about 4.4 steps per SECOND!

WOW!
Wish I could do that!

Heb 12:1-2
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

A marathon is a long race!
Most folk don’t even consider running that far at one time.

Those who run the marathon have to maintain self-discipline in order to finish the race.

Life is like a marathon.
Paul says, “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” (1 Cor 9:25)

The prize is to be WITH Jesus, “the Author and Finisher of our faith.”

Now, here’s the tricky part.
Our manner of running the race of life is NOT what gets us to the prize!
It is CHRIST Who gets us to the prize! (Philippians 1:6)

No matter how self-disciplined we are – we FAIL! (Romans 3:23)
But Christ NEVER fails!!

Therefore, let us run the race WITH Jesus every step of the way!!
He has said that NO ONE “cometh to the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)

No, we cannot accomplish the marathon of life alone!
Yes, we must keep our eyes on the Prize at all times!

Love ya!
