A census taker, down in the backwoods of the Louisiana swamps, knocked on the door of an old shack.
A fellow came to the door.

The census taker began his interview with, "The President has sent us across the country to find out how many people live in the United States."

The old fellow at the door said, "Wa'al, Ah'm right sorry ya'll came all dis way outchere to ask dat,
but, me, Ah ain't got no idea, yeah!"

Eph 3:14-19
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

I've written many devotions, and several sermons on the prayer above.
It is the prayer of Paul for the church at Ephesus.

There are four major requests Paul places before God on their behalf:
1. that they might be strengthened by God's indwelling Holy Spirit,
2. that Christ may dwell in their hearts by faith,
3. that they might know the love of Christ - it's breadth, length, depth, and height -
4. and they might be rooted and grounded in that same love.

How can we explain the love of God?
To begin, we must know the height of Christ in His regal splendor.
He was and is God always.
He is God of very God, and the Creator of all things.
To Him every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that He is LORD.

Then we must know the depth of Christ.
Being in such regal splendor, He was willing to descend to earth and become a servant.
He came to suffer rejection, hatred, treachery, and death by the most cruel instrument ever invented by man!

And, of course we must know the width of Christ.
Whom shall He accept?
He will accept the worst sinner as well as the least sinner.
He will reach beyond the gutter to the garbage pit and receive even me!

Finally, we must know the length of Christ.
He bridges a chasm so vast we cannot comprehend.
He casts a shadow even beyond hell.
Yet, His glory extends above the heavens!

I do not understand the fact that all things contract when cooled and frozen, and yet water EXPANDS!
I don't understand or comprehend it, but I do KNOW it!!
I KNOW it because I've EXPERIENCED it!

My friends, on this side of heaven, we shall never understand the LOVE of Christ!
It is unfathomable to the greatest mind.
It is indefinable by any language.

I pray not that you comprehend or understand the love of Christ.
But I pray instead that you KNOW that love by EXPERIENCE!

And, I pray that you become rooted and grounded in that inexplicable, unfathomable love
by continued surrender to His will in your life.

Love ya!
