THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Once, an old church was doing some remodeling.
The old church had an inscription above the door that read:
“THIS IS THE GATEWAY TO HEAVEN.”
The carpenters doing the remodeling had placed a sign in front of the door that read:
”USE OTHER ENTRANCE!”
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Have you ever noticed how the Gospels (Matt., Mark, Luke, John) are full of contrasts?
Sometimes they are even humorous.
The “unclean” become “clean;” and the clean become unclean.
The “excluded” become “included,” and the included become excluded.
For instance, the sinful, contrite publican becomes accepted because of his humility;
and, the upright, outstandingly moral Pharisee becomes rejected in the prayer room.
Why is this?
It is God’s unique way of showing that finite man has no idea of the Infinite God’s meaning of religion.
As it says in Proverbs 14:12:
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Oh! What a comedy we make of our Christianity sometimes, simply because we don’t pay attention to the OBJECT of our religion:
to KNOW Christ, and to LIVE for His glory!
The real JOY of the Christian is to know and live for the Lord Jesus!
If we are “persecuted,” here on earth for our Lord, we are “blessed” (blissfully happy!)
Because time on earth is SHORT, but heaven is ETERNAL!
Live in the contrasts!
In all difficulty, remember the JOY!
