The genuinely focused attention span of an adult to oral
material is considered to be from 10 to 20 minutes.

I say that because we preachers need to remember that
the mind can absorb only as much as the
behind can endure.

And, that is with genuinely focused attention.

Matt 4:25-5:3
25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from
Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from
Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.

Matthew 5
5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain:
and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

LIGHT from the WORD.

The next 9 devotions will be on the 9 "Blessed(s)" of Matt. 5.

Note first, that Jesus escaped the multitudes following Him by
going up "into a mountain."

The throngs of people distracted His purpose of teaching the
Some of the crowd may have come close enough to hear; but
Jesus' purpose was to teach the disciples principles of truths
for living in the Kingdom of God HERE on earth!

The FIRST principle give is:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom
of heaven."

"Poor in spirit" is the FIRST requirement for salvation.
It is to recognize that one is totally depraved and eternally
lost without Christ, then to surrender to Him as Lord.

This characteristic is in opposition to those who are
proud and will not come to Christ as Lord.

The reward of surrender to Him is knowing that our names are
written in "the book of life" (See Rev. 20:15)

Therefore, "theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Those who have surrendered to Christ as Lord are LIVING
in the "kingdom of heaven!"

AND, they shall NEVER be removed from that kingdom!!

When I realize and am convicted of the fact that I am NOTHING
without Jesus, THEN I have the opportunity to ENTER
the kingdom of heaven.
Because, WITH that realization comes the CONVICTION that
I must surrender to Him as LORD and MASTER of my life!

Are YOU living in the kingdom of heaven today?
Are you EXHIBITING the characteristics of a true Christian?

Love ya!
