THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Once I was visiting with a friend of mine who was an Economics Professor in the university I attended. We were in his office, and I noticed the final test key on his desk. When I looked at it for a few moments, I said, "Hey! These are the same questions you asked us when I was in your class. Aren't you afraid someone will copy and sell the answers?"

He said, "No, not really. You see in Economics, the answers CHANGE!"

Mark 4:30-32
30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed , which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

In the Bible, the answers DO NOT change!

The example of the mustard seed is a tremendous example of the truth and power of God's Word. If one plants a mustard seed, one ALWAYS gets a mustard plant!

There are several varieties of the mustard which begin with a tiny small seed and grow to be a "tree." Under favorable conditions, that plant will grow to 10 or 12 feet in height in just a few months. Birds really land there (mostly to eat the seed) and rest in the shade of ample leaves.

Jesus "liken(s)" the kingdom of God to this plant. What conclusions can we draw from this parable?

First, there is the principle of endurance by absolute truth. Jesus is THE "seed" which produced the kingdom of God's inception in the world. Within 3and1/2 years from the time He began to preach, Jesus had grown a ministry of people which continued to grow, and has never died. He is the "seed of truth," and He planted that seed of truth in His disciples. God's truths never die!

Secondly, there is the principle of sameness from the truth. The seed of truth Jesus planted is the "Word of God." That seed is ALWAYS the same. When you plant mustard seed, it produces mustard plants - not apples, oranges, or hickory nuts. And when you plant the truth of the WORD, it will always produce truth which endures.

Thirdly, there is the principle of multiplication. The mustard seed produces a plant which produces thousands of seeds. When those seeds are planted, millions more plants are produced. About 20% of the population of the world profess to be Christians. That's about 1.2 BILLION!

Fourthly, there is the principle of continuing work. If mustard seeds aren't planted, nothing is produced. Therefore, the kingdom of God rests upon the continuing work of the disciples. There are some 4.8 billion people in the world who DO NOT profess to be Christians. We need more farmers planting THE Seed!

Let's go plant some more seeds!
Let's go plant JESUS!

Love ya,
Bruce
