THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
It was lil Boudreaux's first day at school.
The teacher asked, "What is your favorite animal?"
Boudreaux said, "Fried chicken!"
The teacher said, "You didn't understand. What is your favorite LIVE animal?"
Boudreaux said, "Chicken!"
The teacher asked, "Why?"
Boudreaux said, "'Cause ya can make it FRIED chicken!"
The teacher frowned and asked, "Ok. What is your favorite PERSON?"
Boudreaux smiled and said, "Colonel Sanders!"
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
I don't understand everything in the Bible.
But the things I DO understand cause me to REJOICE!
Jesus called those who come to Him "sheep."
Sheep listen for the shepherd's voice.
They DEPEND upon him for food, water, protection; literally everything!
And when we yield ourselves into the care of Jesus our Shepherd,
we never "perish!"
The Greek word from which perish is translated is APOLLUMI.
It means never to be LOST!
Two things are explained in this passage of Scripture that are important to the Christian:
First, the genuineness of surrender;
Second, the security of the believer.
As for the first, we are genuinely saved when we surrender to Christ as our Master Shepherd, and through repentance determine to follow His Word.
We study the Word to find His direction and guidance.
As for the second, when one is truly surrendered, Christ SECURES that believer.
My favorite animal is the "sheep" surrendered to the Shepherd!
