The father of five children had won a toy at a raffle.
He called his kids together to ask which one should
have the present.
"Who is the most obedient?" he asked.
"Who never talks back to mother?
Who does everything she says?"
Five small voices answered in unison.
"Okay, dad, YOU get the toy."
1 Peter 1:15-16
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober,
and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought
unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according
to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy,
so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
LIGHT from the WORD.
The word "conversation" above is translated from the Greek,
It means more than just your talk; it includes behavior.
And the word "holy" is derived from the Greek hagios.
It means to be morally pure, or blameless.
These admonitions put emphasis on BEHAVIOR, CONDUCT!
Peter's statement "gird up the loins of your mind" relates to
being BEING PREPARED FOR BATTLE!!
The world's lusts, and the devil's temptations,
will certainly try to distract the Christian from his/her purpose.
It is indeed a battle to live a morally pure life for Christ's glory!
However, If truly we are indwelled by God's Holy Spirit,
through surrender to Christ as our Lord,
then HIS character should show in OUR character.
Let our focus be on Jesus, as the center of our lives!
This will help us demonstrate through behavior our
"citizenship" in heaven!
