Over 11 years ago I retired as a pastor.
Since then, many times my phone rings to preach in
supply at some church.

The conversation may begin like this:
"Bro. Bruce, we'd like to know if you'll come preach for us
Sunday (on a certain date), 'cause we haven't been able
to find anyone else."

Now, that's really flattering isn't it?

2 Cor 4:7
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the
excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

LIGHT from the WORD.

The American Dream usually equates VALUE with SUCCESS.
Most of us strive to appear successful.

When Christians transfer that mentality to faith, the focus on
TRUTH is often lost.
When Christians equate success with a godly life, it impacts
the manner in which they interpret suffering.

Many Christians want a life of roses without thorns.
They tend to believe comfort in life is an entitlement
from Christ.

Yet, the Scripture says, "... all that will live godly in Christ
Jesus shall suffer persecution."
(2 Tim 3:12)

We ARE weak clay vessels!
When we recognize this, it puts suffering in a different light!

Suffering is God's TOOL to keep us humble.
It makes us understand that HIS power is that on which we
must RELY!

YES! We are weak clay vessels.
YET, we have a GREAT TREASURE inside these vessels.
It is the GOSPEL of CHRIST!

To enable the POWER of that Gospel in us, we must
RECOGNIZE our weakness, and
RELY upon our LORD!

Love ya!
