THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Two friends, Bob and Bill were ice fishing side by side. Bill was catching fish. Bob asked Bill how he was doing that. Bill just mumbled something. So Bob asked him again, and Bill just mumbled something. Frustrated, Bob told him to talk plain, and tell him how he was catching those fish. So Bill leaned over, took something out of his mouth and said, (shade between the quotes to find out what he said).

"Ya gotta keep the worms warm!"

Gal 5:24-6:1
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
KJV

One of the most beautiful portrayals of love in the Bible was when Mary broke her special little box and poured the ointment over Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair (John 12:3). Some of Jesus' own disciples crticized this action; but Jesus said to let her alone. Mary's attention was focused upon pleasing and praising the Master!

As genuine disciples of Christ, we are to focus our attention upon Him and our service for His sake - not on others. When we begin to make comparisons between ourselves and others, we lose the focus of our purpose. Our service to God is pleasing when we serve Him by serving others, no matter WHO they are!

We are all members of the same "body" (1Corinthians 12:27, Ephesians 4:12). Each of us has different gifts, and differ in our service to the Master. We are not to criticize, or even hold critical feelings toward, another servant of Christ. Christ Himself is the "Judge" of our service (Romans 14:4). We cannot be praising our Master when we are criticising His people!

If indeed we are born again in His "Spirit," then we should "walk" (or live daily) according to His Spirit. And the "fruit" of Christ's Spirit in us is: "..love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: " (Galatians 5:22-23)

Let us not waste our valuable God-given time in envy, jealousy or petty comparative analysis. It's not our job to evaluate others. It's our job to please and praise our Master by serving others.

And, it is our job to provoke one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24).

Love ya,
Bruce
