THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
"Any prayer that starts an official public meeting that pertains to any one particular religion is probably not in good judgment." (New Jersey's Rep. Robert Andrews (D))
May we remind Congressman Andrews, of what Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once said,
“In construing the Constitution, a page of history is worth a volume of logic.”
EVERY U.S. Presidential inauguration since Franklin Roosevelt has begun with prayer invoking the Name of Jesus!
EVERY session of the House of Representative begins with prayer invoking the Name of Jesus (including yesterday’s)!
Yes! If there’s ONE thing Congress needs, it is PRAYER!
1 Tim 2:1-4
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
If we, as Christians, fail to wrap our leaders in personal prayer,
we can not expect to “lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Prayer is not only an energizing of the personal relationship between the Christian and God,
it is also followed by a sympathetic Father answering His child (Matt. 7:11).
And THAT is why some “nay-sayers” in our country decry public prayer!!
They are afraid God will really take the helm of our country!
Personal prayer for our leaders is certainly “good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.”
And, for Christians involved in public affairs, public prayer is also (Mark 8:38, Luke 9:36).
Jesus said if we “abide” in Him (John 15:7), whatever we asked in His Name (John 16:24) will be answered!
It is in Christ that TRUTH is revealed (John 17:19)!
Are you abiding in Christ with daily prayer and Bible study?
Pray for our leaders!
