Once, when I was pastor, the wife of the Chairman of Deacons
She said, “Bro. Bruce, we would like for you to bring a short
devotion at the Deacons Fellowship Supper. You know, just
a brief word.”
I answered, “So, what you’re saying is ‘be sure and don’t
preach a sermon.’”
She answered, “OH! I would NEVER tell you that! But,
you know, just a brief word.”
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him,
and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went
up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel
prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone,
and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur
stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other
on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going
down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the
edge of the sword.
LIGHT from the WORD.
The act of Moses holding up his hands represents PRAYER!
The church, in itself, cannot stand against the world
We need to pray for one another constantly.
And, more, we need to pray for God's PRESENCE
in our lives, and in our church!
Moses was praying that God's PRESENCE would overly
INFLUENCE the battle of Israel against the Amalekites.
Christians, we must pray that God's presence will overly
influence the battle against "principalites"and
"powers" and against "spiritual wickedness
in high places!" (See Eph. 6:12)
The church is the "body of Christ" organized to
effect CHANGE in the world!
The church has specific duties!
In order to accomplish our work for Christ, the church
(EACH INDIVIDUAL) must apply themselves to PRAYER!!
Without our Lord's intervention, we can do NOTHING!
The church is CONSTANTLY in a battle against evil!
And EACH Christian needs to hold up the hands of other
Christians in prayer!
