THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
The tongue, it seems, is attached to the heart,
Where intents of right, or wrong, are sown;
And, when the tongue, controlled by the heart,
Speaks - then right, or wrong, is known.
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright:
but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart,
this man's religion is vain.
Jesus said, "..those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart.."
By this we understand that the intentions and purposes of the heart are tied to the tongue.
The thoughts of the heart precede the actions of the person.
Thus, the actions (including the tongue) are controlled by the intents and purposes of the heart.
Being born again, Christians are to exhibit changes in conduct over their whole character - including the tongue.
When the tongue speaks evil things, the demonstration is an unchanged heart.
(See James 1:26 above)
Therefore, let us "..put off concerning the former conversation the old man,
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;". (Eph 4:22)
Let us be wise with knowledge from our relationship to Christ.
And, let us "..shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom." (James 3:13)
Determine in your heart to speak only that which:
glorifies our Lord,
educates and edifies the saved,
and encourages others to come to Christ.
