THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

A Jewish businessman in Chicago sent his son to Israel for a year
to absorb the culture.
When the son returned, he said, "Papa, I had a great time in Israel.
By the way, I converted to Christianity."

“Oy vey," said the father, "what have I done!"

He took his problem to his best friend.
"Ike," he said, "I sent my son to Israel, and he came home a Christian.
What can I do?"

"Funny you should ask," said Ike. "I, too, sent my son to Israel, and he
also came home a Christian. Perhaps we should go see the rabbi."

They explained their problem to the rabbi.

"Funny you should ask," said the rabbi. "I, too sent my son to Israel, and
he also came home a Christian. What is happening to our young people?”

Then they prayed, telling God about their sons and asking Him what
they should do.
As they finished their prayer, a voice came from the heavens:

"Funny you should ask," said the voice. "I, too, sent my Son to Israel..."

Matt 3:16-17
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out
of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and
he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting
upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased.

Light from the Word.

When Jesus came to earth, he submitted Himself to the laws of God
which govern man.
He was even baptized!
Though He needed no repentance, He was baptized to show His full
surrender
to the will of God in His life.

When Jesus was baptized, the voice of God the Father spoke and said
He was WELL PLEASED!

Well pleased with what?
That His Son should give up His life for people dead in sins?
That His Son should die for mankind made of dust?
YES!

Yes, God was pleased because what Jesus did was an exhibition
of LOVE!
And love is what God is all about.
Love is what God's people (Christians) are all about.

Jesus DEMONSTRATED God's love for mankind.
Jesus PROVED God's love for mankind.
And Jesus EXTENDED God's love TO ALL mankind.

He came to die to Himself so we could have what we NEEDED--
an extension of God's love to WHOSOEVER!

How do we, the "whosoever," RECEIVE His love?
By coming to the cross and dying to self so we can be what He wants!

Are you there?

Love ya!
