THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
What we need in the church today is:
More tithes and fewer drives.
More action and less faction.
More workers and fewer shirkers.
More backers and fewer slackers.
More praying and less straying.
More burden-bearers and fewer talebearers.
More of God's plansóless of man's.
1 John 3:16
Hereby perceive we the love of God,
because he laid down his life for us:
and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
LIGHT from the WORD.
Consider the ALTAR in the church.
It's front and center of the sanctuary.
It's in the most prominent position.
And, it's there for a REMINDER!
FIRST, the altar reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus, our Lord.
His sacrifice was substitutionary in that He died in OUR place!
His vicarious sacrifice is the offering of forgiveness for OUR sins!
SECOND, the altar reminds us that without SURRENDER of ourselves
there can be no salvation!
TRUE contrition for sin leads to COMMITMENT!
We must yield to HIM all that we are, and strive to become
all that He wants!
THIRD, we are reminded to sacrifice ourselves for "the brethren!
We are to yield to each other, the love we owe to God!
The practice of this sacrifice allows the empowering of God's
Holy Spirit into our cooperative body - the church.
And that is how we receive the power to:
elevate our Lord Jesus,
evangelize the lost,
and educate the saved.
REMEMBER the altar!
Without Jesus' surrender in sacrifice we would have no forgiveness.
Without our surrender to Him we have no salvation.
Without our surrender to each other we have no power!
