Evangelism is about taking responsibility,
not making excuses!
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils,
and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my
sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
LIGHT from the WORD.
A "sheep" has very little defense against a "wolf!"
In our mission to share the gospel, Jesus does not want us spending
time thinking of defense.
The best defense for sharing truth is believing it!
Remember, when you put on the armor of God, there is no cover
for the "backside."
Never turn your back to the battle! (See Eph. 6:10-18)
Most Christians do not suffer intense persectution.
However, when we do, we are to remember some specific
instructions from our Lord.
1.) The wisdom of the "serpent" is to defend against danger
by not unnecessarily being exposed to it.
2.) The harmlessness (or wholesomeness) of the "dove"
is to perform no action which can be interpreted as offensive.
3.) "But beware of men."
Wariness includes the fact that they WILL treat you unkindly
even though you try and be nonoffensive.
Almost all of the original disciples were killed in mission work
after Jesus was crucified and resurrected.
Anytime we are questioned, or treated with disrespect,
we should consider it a "testimony."
It is both a testimony TO the love of God and
AGAINST the sinfulness of man.
As Christians, we are instructed to be about the business
Share the Gospel with wisdom, wholesomeness, and
