THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Johnny had been misbehaving and was sent to his room.
After a while he emerged and informed his mother that he had
thought it over and then said a prayer.
“Fine”, said the pleased mother. “If you ask God to help you
not misbehave, He will help you.”
“Oh, I didn’t ask Him to help me not misbehave,” said Johnny.
“I asked Him to help you put up with me.”
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt,
that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Communications from our mouths are an expression
of thought from our minds and hearts.
In our text above, "grace" is translated from the Greek charis.
It means a manner of action in kindness and graciousness.
To have our conversations "seasoned with salt" expresses the
need to have both wit and wisdom.
I remember my dad saying, "Be sure the motor of the mind is running
before engaging the gear on your tongue."
The purpose of ALWAYS being gracious in our speech;
The purpose of seasoning our speech with wit and wisdom;
is to be able to "answer every man" about our relationship to Christ.
This implies a genuine focus upon who we are WITH Christ before
we communicate who we are in the world.
Today, may Christ be the center focus of your every conversation.
