THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Three sharks met off the coast of Florida and were talking about their day's activities.
1st shark, "I caught a big 6-foot-three tourist from Texas today...very filling."
2nd shark, "I caught a nice fat tourist from Virginia today...mmmm...tender."
3rd shark, "I'm starving to death! I caught a politician from Michigan, and when I bit into him, there was nothing but AIR!"
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world,
even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
Yes, there are "sharks" of the world who would consume Christians.
However, even though the world hates us, and the devil lurks like a hungry lion to see whom he may devour,
God has given us His "Word."
His Word makes us different from the world because we are "in Christ."
His Word also promises that one day He will come to receive us to Himself, that where He is, we may be forever!
Jesus did not pray for us to be taken from the world immediately.
He prayed that God should keep us "from the evil" --
keep us from being involved in it, and keep us from being consumed by it.
Sometimes we wish to be removed.
We may wish, like the Psalmist, "Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest." (Ps 55:6)
But it is more profitable to others that we remain for awhile!
It is more profitable to others because we have the "Word" of God.
The Word of God presents the gospel of Christ.
The Word of God presents salvation by grace through faith in Him.
The Word of God presents moral principles which best govern the world.
Soon enough, there will be that wonderful event when Christ comes to receive His own.
The conflict will be over and we will "ever be with the Lord." (1Thess. 4:17)
Remember, Christ is making constant "intercession" for you, and you have His promise.
While we are "in the world," let us be sure to be "in the Word."
And let us share the good news of Jesus with others.
