Once, when I was pastor, the wife of the Chairman of Deacons called me.
She said, “Bro. Bruce, we would like for you to bring a short devotion at
the Deacons Fellowship Supper. You know, just a brief word.”
I answered, “So, what you’re saying is ‘be sure and don’t preach a sermon.’”
She answered, “OH! I would NEVER tell you that! But, you know,
just a brief word.”
Ex 17:10-13 10
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek:
and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand,
that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him,
and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the
one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until
the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
LIGHT from the WORD.
Churches are built upon the foundation of Jesus Christ alone.
HE is LORD; and we are only members of His body on earth.
Pastors, deacons, teachers, and even janitors have a specific
function in the church.
And, so it is with ALL members!
In our text for today, EVERYONE was cooperating to defeat the enemy!
Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands to allow Israel to have God's
blessings and win the fight.
Our enemy, of the body of Christ today, is the ole devil and his wily ways.
The devil seeks to disrupt the work of the body by tearing down
loving cooperation and coordination!
Jesus established the church for three main purposes:
Evangelize the lost, Educate the saved, Minister to the community.
We must, as members, do our duties under the POWER of GOD!
Without His power, we can accomplish NOTHING!
HOLD UP each other's hands!
PRAY for one another!
COOPERATE with one another!
COORDINATE activities to result in our purposes!
Are YOU striving for loving cooperation?
