THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Speaking of inconvenience!
The emperor declared a tax.
And, everyone had to go to the city of their birth to register and pay.
Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem using the taxi of that day -- a donkey's back.
The trip was only 6 miles.
But it was at the end of her pregnancy.
Then, when they got there, the inn had a "no vacancy" sign!
Have you ever faced a day when EVERYTHING went wrong?
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus,
that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David,
which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger;
because there was no room for them in the inn.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
It's bad enough to be taxed; but when you must spend more money on a trip?
It's bad enough to travel; but on a donkey's back?
It's bad enough to deliver a child; but in a stable?
It had been prophesied that this Child would be born, and called:
"Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isa 9:6)
Mary was visited by an angel that told her, "Fear not, Mary; for thou has found favor with God." (Luke 1:30)
Joseph was visited by an angel that told Him, "fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife:
for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son,
and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matt 1:20-21)
I'm quite sure Joseph and Mary had not envisioned the moment like THIS!
It seemed to them that the difficulty of the moment contradicted the prophecy.
Yet, they brought the Christ Child into the world!
When is it a convenient moment for you, Christian, to testify of the Lord?
It is our duty as Christians to bear the testimony of our Lord at ALL times!
Don't think of the time as inconvenient.
Think of the message that is imperative.
