THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

The lady of the house reminded the cook that the gentleman would be bringing some guests home for dinner tonight.
Then she asked, "Have you already prepared?"

The cook said, "Yes Ma'am. I'm PACKED!"

Mal 3:1
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Did YOU know?

One of the last thoughts by the Old Testament was this verse of hope to the Jewish people.
I've always wondered, did they know that the "Messenger" and the "LORD" were One and the same?
Did they understand that this "Messenger" is not the same as the "messenger" spoken of in Isaiah 40:3,
"The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."

This "Messenger, in Malachi 3:1, was the "LORD" Himself!
He came to establish a covenant of righteousness with unrighteous men!

Before Christ was born, Joseph and Mary lived in Nazareth (Luke 1:26).
When the "decree" of Caesar Augustus declared that everyone had to register for taxation in the city of his birth, they had to make preparations to go to Bethlehem.
At the time, Mary was "..great with child" (Luke 2:5).

Their preparations did not include plane fare, nor bus fare.
They only had two modes of travel: walking, and riding the donkey!
The trip, for Joseph and Mary, was about 60 to 65 miles!

Speaking of preparations, what about the hearts of Joseph and Mary?
Did they know that the child, soon to be born, would be the "Messenger of the covenant"?
Every time I hear the song, "Mary Did You Know," I wonder: Did she know that this baby would be "God in flesh?"
Did she realize that this "messenger" would someday come as Lord of glory, enter the temple in Jerusalem, and set up His "Kingdom of Righteousness" there?

What about OUR hearts?
Do we realize this "baby Jesus" is the Eternal God?
Have we prepared our hearts to comprehend that perfect innocence was crucified because of OUR sin?

OH! Kneel with humility my friends!
For the God of ethereal glory became a child!
And this perfect innocence came to DIE!
He came to offer the "PERFECT GIFT" to all mankind: a sacrifice worthy of redemption's price!

Did YOU know?

Love ya!
