THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

A man was on trial, and his lawyer was losing badly.
The prosecution had two lawyers.
The man told his lawyer to ask for a recess.

After a recess was granted, they went into a room.
The lawyer asked why the man wanted a recess.
The man replied, "We need another lawyer."

The lawyer asked, "Why?"

The man said, "Well, they have two lawyers. While one of them is talkin' the other is thinkin'. And we need to do the SAME!"

THOUGHT____________________________________

Sometimes we Christians are guilty of doin' a lot of talkin' and not much thinkin'!
Dad used to say, "Before engaging the gear of the tongue, be sure the engine of your mind is runnin'!"

Today, let's spend a little time thinkin' about our talkin'!

Jesus once said, "I say unto you, Among those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist...." (Luke 7:28)

John was given a great honor from God.
He was given a title in the text above, "..a man sent from God..."

What does "..a man sent from God" DO?
The next verse tells us.

First, he's sent "for a witness."
A witness is someone who testifies truthfully about something he/she has experienced.
Without having experienced something in relation to the case at hand, a witness in court would be useless.
But having experienced something in relation to the case, a witness' testimony is valuable.

Second, he's sent to "bear witness" (testify) "of the LIGHT!"
Jesus is the LIGHT of the world.
By His light we see our sins exposed, and forgiveness offered.
His light illuminates our darkness and leads us to safety.
A "man sent from God" is to testify of how Jesus transforms people.

Third, he's sent "..that all men through him might believe."
The purpose of our witness of Christ is not only to tell of our experience in transformation, but also to lead others to the same experience.
Definitively, we are to testify in such a manner that others will desire to have the same experience.

When we're thinkin' about our talkin', our speech oughta make a difference.

Love ya!
