THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

"You know, I respect religion, but I trust in mathematics," said the mathematician to the clergyman. "And I suppose with you, it's the other way around."

"No. I believe that both are ways to reach the truth," said the clergyman.

"But suppose that one day I told you that math had shown there is no God," asked the mathematician.

The clergyman said, "Then I know, that you as a mathematician, would never rest until you found your error!"

2 John 1-2
1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
KJV

There are many elementary truths in the world. For instance, the mathematical truth that 2 + 2 always = 4; or that the square of 6 is always 36. However, these elementary truths only lead us to THE TRUTH.

Mathematicians have proven that the universe is constantly growing - always expanding. To me, that leads to THE TRUTH that God created the universe. The word in Genesis 1:1 for "created" is bara', which means "created for creating." God's universe is constantly being created by Himself.

THE TRUTH is that God has come into the world Himself, and has offered the only acceptable sacrifice for man's sin. And that God came in the person of Jesus Christ. John says in verse 7 of this same book, "...that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh." The only real life a person has comes from the light of this Truth.

The Truth of Jesus Christ is absolutely necessary for salvation. Once a person comes to this Truth, and surrenders to Jesus as Lord, then that Truth can never be changed. A true Christian would rather die than deny that Truth.

The Truth of Jesus Christ is the eternal hope upon which foundation Christians build their lives. The entrance of the gospel and the sealing of God's Holy Spirit are results of that Truth. Wrapped up in that Truth are the love, mercy and grace of God.

The Truth of Jesus Christ is humbling to all believers. The realization that we are all constant sinners keeps us on our knees asking God to apply the blood of Christ to our sins for cleansing. This Truth makes us wary of sin, and is a reminder to keep striving to live free from sin's domination in our lives.

The Truth of Jesus Christ provides the fellowship between believers that transcends all human boundaries. If we are surrendered to Love, then love exudes from our person. John says in verse 6 of this same book, ".... this is love, that we walk after His commandments."

Dear believer, today let The Truth dwell in you.
And live "for the Truth's sake."

Love ya,
Bruce
