THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
When our daughter was little, she was often ill from asthma.
Once she was in the hospital with pneumonia.
I came in from work to let Ann go home.
As I sat down in the chair beside her bed, she held out her little hands,
and said, "Daddy, would you hold me?"
Of course I picked her up and put her in my lap.
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain
village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet,
and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him,
and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve
alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art
careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part,
which shall not be taken away from her.
The "certain village" was most likely Bethany (See John 12:1).
Martha was "cumbered," or overly concerned with making sure
Jesus was comfortable and had food.
Mary, on the other hand had "chosen that good part."
She simply wanted to sit at Jesus' feet and know His presence.
The lesson Luke sends us through this incident is:
It is important for us to know Jesus' presence in our lives.
It is important to be close to the One Who is our:
Creator, Savior, Provider, and Protector!
As you go about this day, resolve in yourself to:
First, know Christ's presence in your life,
And, Second, to do His will in your life.
