THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
I remember my Karate instructor imparting wisdom.
He said, "ALWAYS try to avoid trouble!
The best defense is NOT a good offense!
The best defense is to be humble and kind.
But, if and when you MUST face trouble,
never turn your back!
You can not defend that which you cannot see!"
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils,
and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake,
for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
When a person is recreated through surrender to Jesus,
he/she is SENT!
New Life begins with MOTION to SHARE the Gospel of Christ!
A "sheep" has very little defense against "wolves!"
In our mission to share the gospel, Jesus does not want us spending
time thinking about DEFENSE.
The best defense for sharing truth is believing it!
Most Christians do not suffer intense persecution.
However, when we do, we are to remember some specific instructions
from our Lord.
Be "wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."
The wisdom of the "serpent" is to defend against danger by not
unnecessarily being exposed to it.
The harmlessness of the "dove" is to perform no action which
can be interpreted as offensive.
"But beware of men."
Be aware of the fact that they WILL treat you unkindly even though
you try to be non-offensive and harmless!
Almost all of the original disciples were killed in mission work after
Jesus was crucified and resurrected.
Did you ever wonder why some people take offense to the Gospel?
The truth of the Gospel is, in itself, a spiritual offense to the heart of sinful man.
Remember, when you put on the armor of God, there is no cover for the
There is no protection in RETREAT!
Keep going FORWARD!
Never turn your back to the battle. (See Ephesians 6:10-18).
