THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Historian Arnold Toynbee, at age eighty, was asked about
being immortal.

He said, "When I catch myself resenting NOT being immortal,
I pull myself up shot by asking whether I should really like the
prospect of having to make out an annual income tax return
for an infinite number of years."

Gen 35:16-21
16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little
way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had
hard labour.
17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the
midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing,
(for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father
called him Benjamin.
19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath,
which is Bethlehem.
20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of
Rachel's grave unto this day.
21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the
tower of Edar.

Light from the Word.

The Bible isn’t a history book; but when it speaks of history, it
is always correct and educational!

Ephrath is later called Bethlehem.
There Rachel gave birth to her second son.
She named him “Ben-oni,” which means “man of sorrows.”

After Rachel died, Jacob renamed the boy “Benjamin,”
which means “son of the right hand.”

Bethlehem is the birth place of our Lord Jesus, our Savior.
He is known as “the man of sorrows,” and as
”the Son of the Right Hand” of God!

After the birth of Benjamin, Jacob moved and “spread his
tent beyond the tower of Edar.”

Edar was a shepherd’s tower near Bethlehem.
The town of Bethlehem and the surrounding area was known
as “the shepherd’s town.”

Tower of Edar

Jesus, “The GOOD SHEPHERD” was born there!
This "man of sorrows," the "Son of the right hand," and the
"Good Shepherd" is none other than God Himself!!

Isaiah 43:11 says (speaking of Jehovah),
"I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour."

The Bible is not a history book, it is HIS STORY!

The immortal God was born a mortal man so He could pay for
our sins in His own blood!

Love ya!
