THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

She came home from the grocery store.
And, when she entered the kitchen there was a THIEF!

It scared her tremendously!
She began repeating "Acts 2:38!, Acts 2:38!"

The thief was startled.
She just kept repeating "Acts 2:38!, Acts 2:38!"

Finally, the thief sat down in a corner shaking.
He said, "Ok lady! Just call the police!"

She did.
When they arrived, the asked the thief,
"Why did you give up?"

He said, "She kept telling me she had an axe and two 38's!"

Matt 24:42-44
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what
watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have
suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the
Son of man cometh.
KJV

1 Thess 5:2
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so
cometh as a thief in the night.
KJV

Rev 3:3
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard,
and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch,
I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what
hour I will come upon thee.

Light from the WORD.

In Jewish tradition, the High Priest was known as the "thief in the night."
He would go to the temple at night and check on the temple guards.
If they were asleep, he would take coals from the altar and use them to
set their cloaks on fire!

When the fire awakened them, they would shed their garments and
run naked through the temple court to get new garments.

So, in the New Testament, Jesus, Paul and John used the tradition
to WARN the church!

Our Lord's statement in Rev. 3:3 above is to the church at Sardis.
Sardis was known as the "dead church."
They appeared alive and well, but they were spiritually LIFELESS and
desperately needed REVIVAL!

Christian, our Lord has set us as GUARDS in the world.
We are to stand for truth and guard against the evils of the world.

We are also to stand in the gap, speak boldly and proclaim the Gospel.

How is YOUR fellowship with Christ?

Are you daily being fed by His Bread of Life -- the Bible?
Are you daily in contact with Him through prayer?
Are you lively in evangelistic effort toward others?
Are you standing against evil, speaking the truth in love?

Be AWARE!
Be ALERT!
Be DOING!

For our High Priest comes upon the DEAD church as a "thief in
the night" to EXPOSE it!

Love ya!
