A call came into the dispatcher at the Sheriff's office.
The man on the line identified himself as a pastor.
He said, "There is a dead donkey in my yard.
Can someone come and remove it?"
The dispatcher thought he would have a little fun with
He said, "I thought you pastors were supposed to take
care of the dead."
The pastor, a quick-thinking soul, answered,
"Yes. We are. But we usually notify the RELATIVES first!"
19 All that openeth the matrix is mine;
and every firstling among thy cattle,
whether ox or sheep, that is male.
20 But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb:
and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck.
All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem.
And none shall appear before me empty.
LIGHT from the WORD.
EVERYTHING (and EVERYONE) belongs to God!
God's law to the Hebrew people included a picture
He required that the first-born of the "clean" animals
be given to Him.
But the "ass" was an "unclean" animal!
God required a substitute offering for his redemption.
Now notice this: "thy SONS thou shalt REDEEM!"
YOU and I are included among the UNCLEAN!
And God required a substitute offering for us!
We do not live under the age of law but under grace!
God OWNS us; but will not CLAIM us, unless we are
Jesus paid the price of BLOOD for our redemption.
God paid His own blood to God for our sakes!
There is no comparison of the "unclean" and "unfit" human
soul and the "life" of Christ our Lord!
Yet, the "Lamb" died to make us whole and acceptable!
(See 2Cor. 5:21)
To "break his neck" (Hebrew 'araph) meant to
destroy the animal.
If he were not REDEEMED, he must be DESTROYED!
Is it not the same with human beings?
There are only two choices in our lives:
One, to be redeemed "by the blood of the Lamb;"
Two, to be DESTROYED!
Praise God today that redemption has been made
and forgiveness is offered!
Trust Jesus, and serve Him for you have been REDEEMED
by the sacrifice of your Substitute - our Lord, Jesus Christ!
