There was a new man working on the road crew, and every day he had a question for the foreman.
"When am I going to get a shovel?"

But the foreman only used this new man to carry water to the others.
Finally, on the fourth day, when the man asked, "When am I going to get a shovel?"
the foreman asked, "Why do you want a shovel? You're being paid."

The man said, "Yeah. But everyone else has something to lean on!"

Mark 11:22
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

How important is it to "have," possess and use faith?
All of us Christians are like that new man on the road crew:
we need something to lean on!
And we need something to work with!

Faith is that something.

Faith is received by surrender to Christ as Lord.
We are saved "by" grace, but we continue on "through" faith.
Eph 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Grace is the channel by which God pours out His love and self-revelation and by which He draws us magnetically to the Savior.
Faith is the tool with which we are kept close to the Savior and by which we grow to be more like Him.

But faith is like a shovel.
It is a gift to be used!
Faith is not "of" works, but it certainly is to be used "for" work in Christ.

The Christian can use faith to lean on when he/she faces trouble, anxiety, fear, temptation.
We can know that God will help us to work THROUGH those difficulties and our sure result is living with Christ in heaven forever.
For you see, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)

The Christian can also use faith to grow stronger in the Lord and become useful to God through ministry to others.
Faith is the tool which helps us dig into the Word of God, discerning His will for our lives and finding His instructions on how to live.
Faith is the oil for prayer, drawing us closer to God.
Faith is the instrument of work by which we share the Gospel of Jesus with others.

Yes, it is important to have and use your shovel called faith.
"For without faith it is impossible to please God..." (Hebrews 11:6)

USE your “shovel!”

Love ya!
