Joe was caught sleeping at his work desk.
He said, "Sorry, sir. That cold medicine I took last night
just doesn't seem to wear off."
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of
Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding
sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here,
and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face,
and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible,
let this cup pass from me:
nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth
them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not
watch with me one hour?
LIGHT from the WORD.
Christian, are you sleeping on the job?
Notice in verse 38 above, Jesus asked His disciples
to "watch WITH me."
The word "watch" is translated from the Greek
gregoreuo, which means to be AWAKE,
The word "with" is translated from the Greek
meta, which means accompany.
Jesus was asking the disciples to take a position
close to Him, and pray with him.
Is the church not acting in this irresponsible manner
If we were more diligent in Bible Study, we'd have
a better knowledge of truth, and be able to speak
out intelligently against evil!
If we were less lethargic in prayer, we'd have more
accompaniment of God's Holy Spirit!
If we were more vigilent in church attendance, giving
and participation, we'd be able to cause the
machinery of the church to be well-oiled and
active in the community!
As Paul said in Rom. 13:11,
"...NOW it is high time to awake out of sleep...!"
May the "body of Christ" ARISE - WAKE UP!
For soon, we may be GOING UP!
And that means we have only a LITTLE time
to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
