THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Names are given to children with thoughtfulness by the parents concerning their vision and hope for the child.
I can't imagine the forethought of my grandmother when she named my father:
Julian Burton McGee.
But I do imagine that my father was determined to "get back" at my grandmother when he named me: Bruce Donald McGee.
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Just as Paul did (in the devotion Friday - from Philippians 2), Peter aligns the name JESUS with CHRIST. Jesus (Jehovah saves) coupled with Christ (Messiah).
Notice that Peter adds "of Nazareth," reminding us of the HUMANITY of our God and Savior.
He was God, come to earth in a MAN, to become SAVIOR!
Just as was prophesied by Isaiah: (Isaiah 43:11) "I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour."
Peter also says, "there is none other name under heaven....whereby men MUST be saved!"
In order for us to receive the forgiveness and eternal life God offers, He came in flesh to offer HIMSELF as the perfect sacrifice for our sins!
If men are to be forgiven by God's mercy;
If men are to receive eternal life and reside in heaven with God;
If men are to escape "hell," the consequences of sin;
they MUST be saved by Jesus Christ!
There is no OTHER way!
Jesus is the ONLY "door" (John 10:7) at the end of the "narrow...way" (Matthew 7:14)!!
Have you called upon Him to forgive and save you?
