THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

My former pastor, Perry Lassiter (now retired) sent the following to me.

"I was watching a football game on TV about 20 years ago.
The camera scanned the crowd.
There was a man holding up a sign that read 'JO 3:16.'
An announcer asked, 'What's that?'
Another announcer said, 'I dunno. Looks like Job 3:16.'"

(Job 3:16 is where Job is lamenting his birth!)
(JOHN 3:16 is another story altogether!!)

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Yes. I know...I used that same Scripture yesterday.
(See LIVING EVERLASTING LIFE NOW)

Actually, John 3:16 was the Scripture base for the first feeble attempt I made at preaching.
And, I have used it many times since.

Bro. Perry had asked me to preach the "Layman's Day" sermon.
He didn't know it, but I was already struggling with God about surrendering to the ministry.

After studying for over 2 weeks about what text to use, I chose John 3:16.
I developed the sermon, and had seven pages of notes.
When I preached the sermon, it lasted about 8 minutes!

Before that Sunday, I had prayed and asked God, "If You really want me to preach, please send someone to make a confession of faith that has not been talking about it beforehand."

After that feeble sermon, a 12-year-old girl came down the aisle and made a confession of faith in Jesus!
Her mother had been my wife's Maid of Honor when we got married.
So, I asked her, "Cookie, has Deidre been talking about being saved?
She said, "Butch (my nickname), I had to SIT DOWN! She hadn't said a word about it before!"

That was 30 years ago!

Needless to say, it's not the ability of the messenger that counts....
It's the MESSAGE!

Ain't God GOOD?

Love ya!
