THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Bill & Tim always had a good fun-loving golf rivalry.
One day, Tim was ahead of Bill on the score.
He had a putt that was about 2 feet from the hole, and
Bill said, “That’s a gimmie – just pick it up.”
Next hole, Tim is about to tee off.
Just in the middle of his backswing, Bill stuck the end
of his driver in Tim’s back!
Of course that wreaked havoc with Tim’s swing and
his ball ended up in the woods!
”What was THAT?” Tim asked.
Bill said, “That was a GOTCHA!”
1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same
afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Light from the Word.
Watch out for that ole devil!
He’ll sneak up behind ya with a “GOTCHA!”
“Be sober” –
alert, awake, not drunken on or with the wines or niceties of this world.
“Be vigilant” –
on guard, watchful, not lax concerning the care of your character.
fight the “good fight” of faith; remain active in the things of God.
relying totally upon our Lord, utilize the resources of faith:
prayer, Bible study, Christian fellowship.
Remember Christians, we are weak:
too easily shocked and/or caught off guard.
Our only means of being strong is to employ closeness
with our Lord by remaining active in His work.
